Advance Party Preparations

I think everyone, including the hostess, should have fun at the party!

Advance preparations are the way to make sure this happens. During the actual party it is important to devote your time and energy to your guests and the information you wish to share with them. Once you have completed the following advance preparations you will have a step-by-step format to follow during the party. This plan will eliminate the hostess’ need to memorize any information. She will have everything written down on cards or posters so all she has to do is read them to her guests.

Perfect Party Cards
Take a stack of loose index cards. On the first card write down the instructions in step number one from the 22 steps to a perfect party section of the book. Abbreviate the information. For example the first card could say, greet guests, check invitations, and enter names in drawing for the door prize. Now continue filling out a separate card for each step. These cards will make it easy for you to direct the party.

Powerful Pink Poster Boards
Get out the bright pink poster boards and your markers. Copy the 8 italicized sections from the party plan in the book20onto the 8 posters. (Feel free to let your inner artist go wild and maybe add some glitter to jazz things up a bit.)

Party Favors
I suggest giving your guests the evacuation essential necklace as a party favor. It is an easy and useful gift. You should buy a whistle on a lanyard for each of your guests. All that is left to do is attach small flashlights of some kind to the lanyards.

Wine Glasses and Wine Charms
Count your wine glasses and wine glass charms to make sure there will be enough for your guests. If you have a co-hostess you will probably be able to combine your wine glasses and have enough for the party. The wine charms can be as simple as tying different colored ribbons on the stems of the wine glasses or as elaborate as creating beaded rings with actual charms attached.

Party Packs
To construct your party packs you should start by taking a gallon sized zipper-top plastic bag and cut a small hole at the top of each side of the baggie under the seal. Next make a long handle for each of the party packs. To do this cut a yard and a half of bright pink ribbon, thread a ribbon end through each hole and tie in a secure knot. You should finish by filling the packs with a pen, a pencil, a single ruled 3x5 index card, a flip-topped ruled index card pad, and a tape measure.

Prizes
Wrap the two prizes in some bright pink paper and ribbons. I recommend giving a door prize early in the party. I have structured the party timetable so that serious subject matters are interspersed with fun activities. My suggestion for the door prize is to wrap up a box of space saving travel bags and a luxury chocolate bar. Use bright pink wrapping paper and a big bow with a copy of The Wine and Chocolate Evacuation Plan placed under the ribbon. The grand prize (which should be given at the end of the party) should be a big box of garbage bags, a box of space saver travel bags, and two boxes of zipper-top baggies. It looks good to wrap each box separately in bright pink paper and build a tower of pink with ribbons and a copy of the book at the top. Once you have wrapped this prize, it can do double duty as a party decoration.
