“Always evacuate with what you need to work.”
I was a 25 year old successful hairdresser and nail technician in Biloxi, Mississippi when Hurricane Katrina hit. Due to a last minute decision for my family to evacuate together I lost everything. The most important things I lost were what I needed to work. I didn’t have a car, a license, any equipment, or even clothes to work in. I had left everything behind. After the storm I was sleeping in the back of a truck and trying to figure out what I could do to help feed my family. I desperately needed to work but I had left everything behind.
